Determination works

I love fortune cookies and often find them very inspiring.

When I first ran for office (in 2008), "nobody" thought I could win. I was a Democratic woman running in a Republican Assembly district that had not elected a Democrat in 20 years and had never elected a Democratic woman. I did not have the support of the Democratic party - or of Democratic Assembly Leadership, who publicly said they thought the race was not winnable and that my opponent seemed nice.

But, I was determined, and I had a strong team. At the time, I kept thinking about the book, "The Little Engine That Could," and I kept repeating, "I think I can. I think I can," just like the little engine. And just like the little engine, I did.

I made a YouTube video that speaks more about that race, as well as the importance of authenticity, and you can check it out here.
